On Thursday, the 22nd, the second day of the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships took place at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium. South Korean figure skater Haein achieved her season-best score (34.38 points for technical elements (TES), 32.68 points for program components (PCS), and a total of 67.06 points) and placed sixth, expressing satisfaction with her performance and determination for upcoming events. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on MFocus.

Meeting with reporters in the mixed zone after the competition, Haein Lee said, “I was very nervous today. I remembered how I didn’t skate well in Shanghai two years ago and cried a lot then, but today I think I did well. It wasn’t my best performance, but I think it was okay. There were so many people cheering for the skaters today, so I felt a great sense of relief that I performed decently.”

She added, “Looking at the overall performance, there were no major mistakes, so I want to praise myself for overcoming my nerves. Although it wasn’t an amazing performance, I was really happy to be able to show my skating in front of so many supporters.”

When asked about the secret to her good result despite some mistakes in official practice, Haein explained, “I think anyone can make mistakes during practice. Competition is different from practice. I know how to land my jumps, so I just thought, ‘That mistake was just a mistake,’ and didn’t worry too much. Having supporters also gave me more strength.”

For Haein Lee, who will compete at the 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics next month, this event was her last chance to check her condition at an international competition. Asked about her personal goals for this event, she said, “My goal was to overcome my nerves and show my performance, and I’m glad to see some improvement.”

When a foreign reporter asked what she expects from the Olympics, she replied, “Before the Four Continents, I was focused only on this event. I want to take things step by step. So, when I get to the Olympics, I think that’s when I’ll really feel, ‘I’m at the Olympics.’”

Regarding tomorrow’s competition, she said, “Even if I’m nervous, I want to make sure I express myself and perform with energy. The free program music is more captivating and intense, and while there are many elements like jumps, I want to pay more attention to the choreography.”
