Haein Lee placed seventh in the Skate America short program, reflecting on her performance and growth while expressing gratitude for the opportunity to compete in the Olympic season. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on MFocus.
In the mixed zone, Lee said, “I was very nervous. But the energy from the fans was so strong and overwhelming that I’m glad I finished without any major mistakes.” Regarding areas for improvement, she added, “My triple lutz–triple toe loop combination was cleaner in practice, so I’m disappointed it didn’t show today. I’ve been getting level 3 on my step sequence lately, so I need to get more feedback and improve that part.”
Asked by a foreign journalist about the competitive landscape among Korean skaters in this Olympic season, Lee replied, “I’m grateful and happy just to be able to compete at Korean Nationals. I’m already glad to have the chance to go to the Olympics.” When asked how things have changed since her World Championships medal two years ago, she said, “Back then, I was so excited after winning the medal that it was hard to focus on the next competition. Now, no matter how well I do at an event, I try to immediately focus on the next one.”
In her interview with Korean journalists, Lee explained her personal growth and preparation process: “In the past, I couldn’t focus well on one thing, but now I set a clear jump style and concentrate, so my condition has gradually improved.” Regarding her decision to bring back the “Sirens” program this season, she said, “I want to show a more mature side than before. I’m aiming for stronger jumps and softer, more refined facial expressions and arm movements.” About her costume, she added, “Since I’m using the same music as before, I wanted a new look rather than wearing the old costume. The pearl decorations fit the mermaid concept well, so I chose this outfit.”
