Kevin Aymoz won his first Grand Prix title at Skate America, overcoming injury and emotional challenges, and now looks ahead to the European Championships and the Milan-Cortina Olympics. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on L’Equipe.
“It’s just magnificent!” Emotional, Kevin Aymoz was in tears as he received the judges’ verdict after his free skate at Skate America on Saturday night in Lake Placid.
However, even with the 15 points from this victory, Kevin Aymoz will not qualify for the Grand Prix Final in Nagoya (Japan, December 4–7), after finishing his first Grand Prix Skate Canada in 10th place.
“I’m very disappointed, but I’m not going to lock myself in a dark box,” he said, aware that he can use the time to recover from a chaotic start to the season before major events – the European Championships in Sheffield (GBR, January 13–18) and, of course, the Milan-Cortina Olympics (February 6–22, 2026).
It’s worth noting that in Saskatoon (Canada), he was just recovering from a left foot injury. “I could have withdrawn; many would have,” he said at the time. “But I remembered that in an Olympic year, it’s important to show you’re present.”
Relying on his artistic strengths, Kevin Aymoz delivered a solid short program, deliberately omitting the quad toe loop.
“But I challenged myself to include it in the free skate, relying on visualization and my mental strength. Even though the rest of the program was more difficult, given the month of disrupted training and my physical delay, I managed to stay on course. Selfishly, I also want to fight for myself, and I’m more motivated than ever.” Staying in Florida between his two events, Aymoz began to regain his quad salchow and attempted two quad toe loops in the Skate America free skate. .
