Kazuki Tomono prepared for Skate America with focused training, aiming for strong results and a Grand Prix Final spot as the competition approaches. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.

Kazuki Tomono (27,) took to the ice for practice ahead of the competition opening on the 14th. While some of his quadruple jumps opened up in the air or had unstable landings, he managed to land several and continued his adjustments throughout the allotted 40 minutes.

At Skate Canada two weeks ago, his first Grand Prix event of the season, Tomono placed second in the short program but dropped two spots in the free skate to finish fourth overall, missing the podium. Nevertheless, he emphasized a positive outlook: “With a week off, I was able to rest and adjust well. Today, I was able to prepare well for tomorrow. I even feel like I have energy to spare.”

A win at this event would secure Tomono’s first-ever spot in the Grand Prix Final (December 4–7, Nagoya) and move him closer to his first Olympic team selection. Reflecting on Skate Canada, he said, “I made mistakes, but my form wasn’t broken,” and added, “I haven’t won a Grand Prix yet, so I hope that will be my first goal.”
