Japanese figure skater Ami Nakai approaches Skate Canada with a calm and focused mindset as she aims to secure a top-three finish and qualify for the Grand Prix Final, which is crucial for Olympic selection. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.

Recognizing the heightened expectations around her, Nakai said, “First and foremost, I want to focus on my performance. I’ll be happy if I can make it to the podium.”

In both her short program and free skate, Nakai plans to incorporate one triple axel. During official practice, she meticulously practiced the challenging jump and landed it cleanly after her run-through. Throughout the session, she made adjustments to her jumps, focusing on keeping her left foot well-positioned during takeoffs to address the tendency to open her body in midair. “My priority is to ensure clean landings and to stabilize my other jumps as well,” Nakai stated as she reviewed her performance.

Since her victory at the French Grand Prix, Nakai has stayed focused and worked hard to further improve her programs. “I’ve been training steadily since France, so as long as I trust in that preparation, I think I’ll do fine,” the up-and-coming Olympic contender commented with confidence.
