Adam Siao Him Fa rebounds at the Grand Prix de France, claiming silver with strong improvements and renewed joy in skating after a challenging start to the season. Here’s a translation of his comments posted in Franceinfo.
After a difficult start to the competitive season, French skater Adam Siao Him Fa rediscovered his spark at the Grand Prix de France in Angers. With a total score of 196.08 points in the free skate, the Frenchman secured the silver medal
Placed fifth after the short program, where he fell on his opening quadruple Lutz, Siao Him Fa made an impressive comeback in the free skate. Skating to the theme of The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo, he delivered a clean performance, marred by only one error on a jump combination.
“There’s so much more joy — more enjoyment. Honestly, throughout the day, I felt pretty good, and I was really looking forward to skating this program. I didn’t feel the restraint I had during the short program,” shared the French skater after his performance. Two days earlier, Siao Him Fa had mentioned that he was working on “rediscovering the pleasure of skating” by focusing less on outcomes and more on the present moment.
“I think we’re heading in the right direction,” he added. Unlike his earlier competitions, Siao Him Fa only incorporated four quadruple jumps into his free skate program instead of five, aligning with his goal of rebuilding confidence. “I need to regain confidence in myself first. Maybe we’ll add more quads in the second half of the season.”
Adam also later shared heartful Instagram post:
“I just want to say thank you. Thank you for all the support, from my team, from the French federation and all they do for me, and from the fans for always uplifting me when I need it most. Thank you to everyone for your continued belief in me. It was not an easy start to the season, but we are going in the right direction. And thank you for finding a pure joy in skating and competing again, not burdened by pressure or doubts, just doing what I love, and finally being able to soar again.
Also thanks to the ISU and to all the volunteers for the organization of the event.”
Siao Him Fa’s next competition will be another Grand Prix, set to take place in Finland from November 21 to 23.
