Russian ice dancers Vasilisa Kaganovskaya and Maxim Nekrasov shared their thoughts on working with French choreographer Benoit Richaud and reflected on their new programs introduced during the test skates of the Russian figure skating team. Here’s a translation of their comments.
Kaganovskaya on the Dance Programs
“We are incredibly grateful to Benoit for his amazing work. Skating this program brings us so much joy – we even feel completely different while performing it. I’d describe this program as a story about soulmates who chose to live a happy life. This year, we find the short dance more physically demanding than the free dance, which is surprising. The short dance is energetic and non-stop; we get more tired performing it. The free dance, on the other hand, feels like it breathes.”
Nekrasov on Adapting to New Styles
“It’s something new for us – a new style and choreography. We’re still refining the program. There’s a stark contrast between the two dances, but the free dance also has its challenges. It needs to be skated with calmness and expansiveness.”
