American figure skater Amber Glenn shared her challenges during her winning performance at the Nebelhorn Trophy, balancing competition pressure with physical setbacks as she navigates a critical Olympic season. Here’s a translation of their comments given to Sports correspondent Maya Bagriantseva.
“During the first half of the program, I was fully focused, and everything was going according to plan. But during my first spin, I experienced a spasm in my back. For the remainder of the program, I was just trying to hold on. With the level of competition at this event, I knew I couldn’t afford to give up.”
Glenn acknowledged the unique tension of this season, with the Olympics looming on the horizon:
“This season does feel special – there’s already a lot of tension in the air, though I try not to pay too much attention to it. I’m also trying not to think too much about the Olympics. I prefer to treat it as a nice potential bonus for the season – a great new experience if it happens.”
Reflecting on her lessons from last season, Glenn spoke about energy management:
“Last season taught me a lot. I started too strong in the first half and had no energy left by the time Worlds came around. Now I have a clearer idea of how to approach this season and maximize my chances of making the Olympic team.
At the end of the day, I can only control what’s within my power. The final decision about the Olympics will be in the hands of others.”
