Reigning World Champions Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara, who led after the short program (SP), placed second in the free skate and ended the competition with a total score of 221.03 points, finishing just 0.35 points behind Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin of Germany. Here’s a translation of their comments posted on Nikkansports.
Miura commented on their free skate: “We still need more practice for the second half of the program.” During the section where both skaters perform jumps simultaneously, Miura completed a double jump instead of a triple, and she also fell on a throw jump.
Skating to the soundtrack of Gladiator, the pair showcased fluid choreography and artistry, earning the highest program component score (PCS) of the event. Their ability to exceed 140 points in the free skate for a second consecutive competition demonstrates promising growth.
Kihara reflected on this milestone: “It’s a significant achievement to consistently score in the 140-point range at such an early stage of the season.”
Miura: “Despite the mistakes, it’s encouraging that we surpassed 140 points in the free skate. The first half of the program has really improved, but the second half still needs a lot more work.”
Kihara: “Finishing second was a bit disappointing. Honestly, we hadn’t put as much focus on the second half of the program yet. With each competition, we want to take steps forward and improve.”
