On Friday, September 5 (local time), the first day of the 2025 ISU Figure Skating Challenger Series Kinoshita Cup took place in Osaka, Japan. Representing South Korea in the women’s singles category, Ahsun Yun performed her short program to the soundtrack of East of Eden, earning a total score of 57.35 points. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on MFocus.

Yun successfully executed her planned jumps, including a triple lutz-triple toe loop combination, a double axel, and a triple flip. However, certain judgments left room for improvement. While her performance flowed smoothly overall, the detailed scores remained slightly below expectations.

After her performance, Yun shared her thoughts in the mixed zone. “Since this was my first competition in Japan, I felt a bit nervous during the six-minute warm-up,” she admitted. “Switching music slightly late meant I needed more time to get used to it. I felt tense at the beginning, but when the music started, I tried to stay calm and work through it, so it turned out okay.” Regarding her jumps, she said, “While I’m slightly disappointed with them, I’m focusing on the fact that I completed my performance with no major mistakes.”

On her goals for the competition, she explained, “Even if it’s not a Grand Prix event, I want to have performances this season that I’m satisfied with. I hope today marks a strong start to the season.”

Initially, Yun had planned to skate to The Fire Within this season but switched to East of Eden less than a month before the competition. “The original program didn’t feel natural for me. Since this is an Olympic season, I wanted to choose music that fits me better. Based on a recommendation from coach Shin Yea-ji, I decided on East of Eden,” Yoon explained.
