In a conversation with Sports correspondent Maya Bagriantseva, Nikita Volodin shared his emotions after winning silver medal at the 2025 World Championships in Boston. Here’s a translation.

Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin claimed second place (219.09 points), finishing less than a point behind Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara (219.79 points). Earlier this season, they won the European Championships.

“This is sports, and this is the silver medal at the World Championships. So, of course, it’s fantastic. Nine years ago, I was a junior watching the World Championships in Boston, and I couldn’t have imagined that one day I’d compete at such an event and even less that I’d end up on the podium.

After our skate, before reviewing the detailed printout of scores, I had the feeling that we lost the gold rather than won the silver. But now, looking at the results, I can see that the mistake in the final lift cost us dearly. It was purely a technical issue — my arms were fatigued, making it difficult to finish everything as planned. Because of my mistake, it ended up being difficult for Minerva too. Still, I’m proud that we fought hard.

Maybe it’s even better that we only got silver for now — it motivates us not to relax. I firmly believe that staying hungry is crucial: don’t spoil yourself, don’t rest on your laurels, and even avoid unnecessary purchases — these can pull you too far away from your primary goal. If everything feels too good and perfect, you might start thinking, ‘Why push myself?’ And that’s unacceptable.

Reflecting on the season, it was a success. We had a small slump at the German Nationals, and then I got seriously ill after the winter Art on Ice shows — fully recovering only a week before the World Championships. But our results were strong, and most importantly, we made significant strides in consistency. I think this season we proved that we deserve to be taken seriously.

We can compete at the highest level, not be afraid, and I think we’re ready to face any competitors. Our task is to show what we’re capable of. Medals and placements are the results of hard work, so we need to work even harder. Of course, I have the kind of mindset where I’m always looking for mistakes, thinking about what can be improved, and feeling dissatisfied with something. But deep down, I’m very happy.

Next week, we’ll be flying out to start choreographing new programs — it’s better to do this while we’re in good shape and aware of what we’re capable of. After that, I’ll be focusing intensively on learning German, as I’m working toward obtaining a passport. I’ve already been studying German a lot — my last session was right before the competitions started — but now it will be my top priority,” said Volodin.
