Evgenia Medvedeva shared her thoughts on the pairing of Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry.
“It’s very challenging, especially because Guillaume and Gabriella had such a long journey — from Olympic silver to gold and now he’s stepping into a new season with a new partner. I’m sure it will take them at least a couple of seasons for judges, and all of us, to adjust our perception and see them as an entirely new pair.
Naturally, the reaction will be something like, ‘It was better with Gabriella.’ There’s a chance that this mindset could lead to lower scores for them, simply because everyone is so accustomed to the gold standard of skating represented by Papadakis and Cizeron.
Now we have Cizeron without Papadakis—it’s something new, and people will need time to get used to it,” remarked two-time world champion Evgenia Medvedeva on the Katok show featured on the DobroFON YouTube channel.

Guillaume had always been the star of the P/C pair. He had that it factor and was very clearly artistic that you could see him succeed outside of ice dance. But Gabriella had the grit and to her credit it felt like she never wanted to be outshone by Guillame, so both of them ended up improving year after year because Gaby always exceeded expectations. Its to early to say whether Guillaume would succeed without her, as he needs a partner that has the determination not to be outshone by him. Someone like Hubbell, or Virtue or Gabby.
