I’ve spent plenty of time just lazing around. Honestly, that’s the kind of second career I was hoping for. But I’ve come to realize the importance and joy of having something to focus on and to commit yourself to a goal.” Shoma Uno about his ice show

Shoma Uno (27), a three-time Olympic medalist and former world champion in men’s figure skating, is set to launch his first self-produced ice show. The announcement was made at a press conference on the 19th in Nagoya, which was also live-streamed on Toyota Times Sports. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.

The show is titled “Ice Brave” and will take place across three locations in Japan in June and July.

The cast includes Shoma Uno himself, along with Marin Honda, Rika Hongo, Yoji Nakano, Kazuki Kushida, Tsunehito Karakawa. Additionally, Shoma’s former coach, Stéphane Lambiel, will join as a guest skater.

Since retiring from competitive skating last season, Uno shared reflections on his transition: “I’ve spent plenty of time just lazing around. Honestly, that’s the kind of second career I was hoping for — relaxing and doing nothing. But I’ve come to realize the importance and joy of having something to focus on, and how meaningful it is to commit yourself to a goal,” he said with a smile. “This time, I have the opportunity to create a new ice show, taking on the role of producer while also being the main performer.”

The show will feature more than ten of his programs, most of which he used during his competitive career, with the exception of two pieces. “Both for myself and for the audience, I thought it might be interesting to skate to those programs now and see how they take shape,” Uno said passionately.

He also explained the origin of the show’s title: “We had a lot of discussions and came up with many ideas, but ‘Ice Brave’ felt the closest to representing my skating journey during my competitive career. My strong point has always been my ability to push forward mentally and approach skating with resilience. That’s something I take pride in when it comes to my performances. When we came across the title ‘Ice Brave,’ everyone in the room unanimously agreed, ‘This is it.’”

Lambiel shared a video message expressing his excitement: “I’m really looking forward to skating together. Let’s create an incredible show with our friends.” However, Uno humorously confessed his one concern: “I’m worried whether he’ll remember everything… That’s what worries me most.”

While speaking highly of Lambiel’s artistic skills, Uno added, “Considering Lambiel’s international base, he won’t be able to join the practices as much. And honestly, both of us can be a bit… let’s say relaxed about things (laughs). That’s part of his charm, though. Still, it does make me a little nervous. But ultimately, I’m excited to see what he’ll bring to the show.”
