Koshiro Shimada (23) commented on winning silver medal at Grand Prix de France 2024. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.

With a total score of 233.84 points, he stood on the podium for the first time in his eight GP series events, saying, “I still can’t believe I am talking here (at the medalists’ press conference),” savoring his joy.

He kept this last season’s “Danse Macabre” as his free program. Last season, he often dropped in ranking during the free skate, stating, “There was fear, and I couldn’t create many good memories with this program.” He initially had a negative impression of the program, but this time, he said he was “incredibly calm” and managed to overcome it.

Talking about his feelings after the competition, Koshiro told, “It’s like I’ve gained a strong feeling or a sense of calm. I especially think the first two jumps were very calm. How does a strong attitude or mentality come about? Until now, I was so calm that sometimes I worried if my excitement was enough. But this time, I was able to trust in my current mode and approach the competition with belief.”

His next major goal is the Japanese Nationals. He stated his objectives clearly: “Improving the GOE” and “Stabilizing the quadruple Lutz.” He emphasized, “I want to keep practicing so I won’t miss out. I aim to refine the quality.”
