“I think it wasn’t quite a performance that would reach 100 points. I feel I could have pushed a bit harder. However, if I can nail everything, scores over 100 are definitely attainable.” Shun Sato on his SP at Skate Canada

Shun Sato (20) scored 96.52 in the short program tacking the current second place at Skate Canada. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.

Despite admitting to feeling nervous as the “jumps weren’t great” during practice, he managed to execute all three jumps successfully during the performance, however reflecting on his performance afterwards, he said, “Well, one thing is that in the step sequence, it was quite obvious that a cluster (a combination of three consecutive turns on one foot) was missed, and I feel like I could have executed the steps better. Also, in the latter part, I hit a wall and couldn’t skate through as well as I wanted, which is disappointing. My jumps weren’t great during the six-minute warm-up, and I was quite nervous, but I managed to land the Lutz with determination, which I think was really good.”

Aiming for over 100 points in the SP, he says, “I think it wasn’t quite a performance that would reach 100 points. I believe my jumps were very good, but looking at the overall program, seeing as how the cluster was missed and thinking about the five components (program component scores), I feel I could have pushed a bit harder. However, I’m quite satisfied with the score,” Shun Sato told. “I think I need to focus on the skating and step sequence parts to reach it.” Nonetheless, he feels potential for improvement and believes that “if I can nail it, scores over 100 are definitely attainable.”
