Kaori Sakamoto (24) commented on he goals for the start of the season. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.
Before the start of her first Grand Prix event Skate Canada, Kaori Sakamoto shared that her main emphasis will be on content and that she is looking for quality, saying, “I want to focus on content rather than points.”
In her first competition of the season at the Lombardia Trophy in September, she scored 199.94 points and placed third. Since then, she has focused on her new free skate, “Chicago,” paying attention to details. “Just by paying attention to the way you move your fingertips, your gaze, and your face, it can make a big difference. I’ve been working on these aspects.”
At the Hyogo Championship in mid-October, she scored a total of 215.80 points. “Before Hyogo, I was able to perform without mistakes, and I feel like I’m getting the hang of it,” she said, sensing positive progress.
Last week, at the first GP Series event, Skate America, Wakaba Higuchi (23), won her first GP event. “I was happy as if it was my own victory,” Sakamoto expressed, “It was a great motivation for me, and it really fired me up.”
Kaori also shared that she “slept soundly on the flight, even skipping the meal.” Having alternated between night and morning practices in preparation for Skate Canada, she mentioned, “I came here a bit sleep-deprived, so it’s just about right. I will do my best!” And after the today’s official practice at Skate Canada she told, “I hope to make a good start here in Canada.”
