On the “Secrets of the Wardrobe.” show Alena Kostornaia spoke about why she continues her competitive career. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“My parents put me into sports, they never really asked me much about it. Later, when I started competing seriously, when it really came down to deciding whether we were doing this professionally or just skating for fun – they asked me, and I said: ‘Why not?’ And so we continued.
When I became almost an adult – at about 16-17 years old – I really understood why I needed this, why and if it was truly my choice.
I don’t experience the same emotions in life as I do when I compete, when I train, when I work – this has become my job. Perhaps it’s because of the lack of these emotions that I wanted to continue. Because I really like it, and it’s great when you do what you like,” the skater said.
