Estonian ice dancer Solene Mazingue shared a post on her Instagram where she shared that she was a victim of sexual assault.

“These past months have been marked by incessant trips between France and Canada. With each flight, each border crossed, I distanced myself a little more from the rink, from the ice that has always been my refuge. You’ve surely noticed it through my posts, my absences. Many of you have written to me, worried, curious, kind-hearted. Today, it’s time for me to speak.

I will never forget that competition last season. Everything seemed to be going as usual until everything changed. That day, I was sexually assaulted by another athlete. That moment froze time, and with it, my voice. I stayed silent for weeks, locked in a solitude I didn’t dare to share.

Then, one day, I found the strength to talk about it with my loved ones. They reached out to me, reminded me that I wasn’t alone, and that my silence shouldn’t become my burden. With their support, I made a difficult but necessary decision: to pursue legal action. I refuse to let this act go unpunished.

This summer, I took a step back. I needed to find my balance again, to reconnect with those who love me, to breathe away from the turmoil. My family has been my refuge, and thanks to them, I feel ready to move forward.

I am aware that this message will raise questions. You supported me after my accident, and I know once again, you’ll be there for me. However, for now, I kindly ask you not to draw any hasty conclusions.

In agreement with my loved ones, my agent, my lawyer, and my dance partner Marco Jevgeni Gaidajenko, I’ve made the decision to step away from social media for a while. When I feel ready, I’ll reach out again. In the meantime, my agency Agence d’influence marketing is available to answer your questions,” she posted on her Instagram.

She did the right thing. Sexual assault should not be tolerated.
