Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin start their season at the Nebelhorn Trophy, they shared their expectations from the season with SportsRu correspondent Maya Bagriantseva. Here’s a translation.

Minerva Fabienne Hase: Performing in front of a home crowd is always a big responsibility. It was important for us to deliver good performances to the audience. Today before the skate, our coach Dmitri Savin said, ‘You are well-prepared, just turn off your brain and trust your body, it won’t let you down.’

The last two weeks before the competitions were tough for me: I had an emotional breakdown. I swung from one extreme to another, poor my coaches and partner – they had to endure me in that state.

I started getting very nervous before the season began: the weight of expectations is felt, we are no longer the ‘dark horses’ like last season. I started working with my sports psychologist again, and it really helps. She helps me change my approach to work and stress less.

Nikita Volodin: We know what we still need to work on, but today was the first competitions of the season. Of course, it’s not 100% readiness yet, but we are working very hard.

We are working on a throw flip; it is already turns out well, but we are not ready to add it to the program at major competitions yet. Also, we are making a more difficult twist and death spiral because we understand that we cannot afford to stagnate.

It’s a bit unusual that so much attention is now on us. Our photos were even put on the competitions poster. If someone had told me about this a year ago, I wouldn’t have believed it. But I try not to think about it, except maybe to make my grandmother happy; I’ll send her this poster, let her rejoice, she’s my biggest fan. I spend a lot of time learning German, I have lessons with a private tutor almost every day. My task is to pass the language exam in spring, so that I can already apply for citizenship.”
