The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that only gold and silver will be awarded for the 2022 Games team event in Paris. The awards ceremony for the team figure skating event at the Beijing Olympics will take place on August 7 in Paris.
Gold medals will be presented to the U.S. team, and silver to Japan.
Russia’s team originally won first place, but due to Kamila Valieva’s disqualification for doping, they lost it and dropped to third. The Russians were awarded the bronze. Russia’s appeal against the disqualification from first place was rejected.
Currently, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is also considering an appeal from the Canadian team, which finished fourth in the team event and is seeking to strip the Russians of the bronze. No timeline has been provided for a decision on this matter.
“Who will represent Russia to receive the bronze? No one. There will be an awarding of gold and silver,” said IOC Director of Communications Mark Adams at a briefing.
