Salla Mäkelä, the executive director of the Finland Figure Skating Association, informed Metch TV that in the current conditions, athletes from Russia would not be able to compete under the Finnish flag.
Russian athletes are barred from participating in competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) due to the war in Ukraine.
“As long as the conflict goes on; Russian citizens cannot compete under the Finnish flag,” stated Mäkelä to Match TV.
Tatiana Tarasova, commented on the news and stated that Russian figure skaters should represent their own country.
“The Finns have long not cared about us. So, what should we do? Right, do the same. Our figure skaters should only perform under their own flag.
We, for some reason, react to all these words of some directors, as if some decision was made at a meeting of the International Skating Union,” said Tatiana Tarasova.
