The 2020 European champion Alena Kostornaia, continues her recovery after shoulder surgery and her new experience in ballet. Here’s a translation of her comment.
Kostornaia is participating in Evgeni Plushenko’s show “Swan Lake”, she performs the part of Odile both on skates and on pointe shoes. In February, the skater, who now performs with Georgi Kunitsa in pair skaring, underwent surgery.
“I’m feeling good, ready for full loads. Some movements still cause discomfort, but they are quite tolerable and do not hinder my work. Performing in pointe shoes and doing ballet even helps me recover better – I dance a lot, I do a lot of choreography, which helps me stay in good physical shape and maintain my endurance. As it turns out, dancing on the floor is much more difficult than on ice – it requires more strength,” explained Kostornaia. “We will start to choreograph the free program very soon, there are ideas for a ballet program – there is music for that, but it’s still waiting for its time”
“The experience of participating in the “Swan Lake” show, on skates and on pointe shoes, has been amazing for me, and I really want to continue to improve in this direction,” noted the athlete. “I’m not the first one to try ballet. Sasha Trusova performed in “Snow Maiden” on pointe, and it’s really cool. I know that she had little preparation time by the time, but she took a risk, tried something new, and presented it to the public. She was the first to do it, she wasn’t scared. I respect her and her great effort, she’s doing an amazing job. In the future, I want to improve and move to a semi-professional level, I want to look decent, work qualitatively, and I’ll do everything to make it happen.”
