Ekaterina Bobrova commented on the prospects of the ice dance duo Cizeron – Fournier Beaudry. Here’s a translation of her comments.
“On the international stage, Guillaume will skatewith a different partner, and they won’t be seen as a pair. That’s what worries me the most.
The judges know him, but specifically with Gabriella (Papadakis). They’ve known them as a team for many years. It’s an established, championship-winning partnership. And to change partners just months before the Olympics… I don’t recall anything like this happening in ice dance.
In pair skating, it’s happened twice — world and Olympic champions switched partners and still won later on. But even then, it wasn’t a last-minute change; they still had to “become a pair” so to speak.
As for how things will go with them now… It’s very intriguing, but I wouldn’t place bets on them. I wouldn’t risk putting my hopes on them.
If they do win, it would be the first time anything like this has happened in history. In that case, I think Guillaume would become the best partner in ice dance history, proving he could win with practically any partner. Even Scott Moir couldn’t manage that,” said Ekaterina Bobrova.
