Davis and Smolkin are in the 7th place after the rhythm dance.

Here’s a translation of duo’s comments reported by sports.ru journalist Maya Bagriantseva.

Gleb Smolkin: We are very happy to perform at the European Championships again. The season started not so smoothly for us – the absence of competitions affected us. We did not expect it to be so challenging – there were silly mistakes, and we were much more nervous than usual.

Diana Davis: Yes, the nerves are more present than before. Despite our experience at major international competitions – we have been to the European Championships and the Olympics – it feels like we are starting from scratch now.

Gleb Smolkin: We are satisfied with today’s performance; according to the scores, it’s almost the best result of the season. In general, getting such scores in the rhythm dance at the European Championships is great. I don’t know what scores other pairs will get, but we are pleased. Everything worked out today, and we feel that we are in the best shape since the start of the season – which is logical; you have to be ready for the European Championships.

I was very nervous at the very beginning of the program; my legs trembled at some point. But then I told myself, “I don’t have the right to make a mistake” – and pulled myself together.

Our main goal for this competition is to recall what it’s like to compete at such major events. We didn’t make it to the Grand Prix series, yes, we competed in Challenger Series events, but it’s still different. We also want to show what we are capable of. That we can do more than we have been able to show so far.”
