Here’s a translation of Mao Shimada’s comments before the Japanese Nationals posted on Web Sportiva.
Japanese Nationals will be the only senior-level competition of the season for Mao Shimada. Last year she finished third, recalling that experience, Mao said “I want to achieve better results than last time in the Japanese Nationals. I didn’t expect to skate in the final group for the free skate last year, so I got overwhelmed by the atmosphere. This year, my goal is to skate confidently even in the final group.”
Going more into detais about her gols for this year’s nationals, Mao Shimada told, “I aim to include the triple axel in the short program and land both jumps (axel and quad) in the free skate. My goal is to perform in a way that satisfies me, focusing more on achieving these technical elements than on the ranking. I want to set a new personal best and aim to surpass the 152.76 points I scored in last season’s World Junior Championships.”
