Alina Zagitova shared her memories of the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang. Here’s translation of her comment.

“After the Olympics, athletes get tired both physically and mentally. So, it leaves some kind of mark. I can say that I was very lucky to win the Olympics. And the emotions I experienced after the victory overshadow everything else. This Olympics left an imprint on my life.

Of course, I went there with the feeling that I was defending my country, my honor, my homeland, coaches, everyone who stood behind me – I didn’t want to let them down. So, I tried to give my maximum, and the rest depended on how the judges decided.

After the short program, when I became the first, I already had thoughts that I would like to stay in the first place. But I quickly dispelled them because such thoughts interfere a lot.

We, together with the coaches, made history because, honestly… When they suggested to me: ‘You will jump everything in the second half of the program…’ Honestly – I started to panic because I didn’t understand how I would cope with it.

But apparently, they thought I could do it, for which I am very grateful because it defined my entire career. All the titles I received are partly because they set me such an ultimatum.

We doubt ourselves more, and coaches dispel all doubts. They said – you have to do it,” Zagitova said on the Europa Plus radio broadcast.
