Here’s a translation of Carolina Kostner’s comments about work with Yuma Kagiyama posten in the interview on Sports Graphic Number Web.
“Yuma’s skating is so light and airy, as if floating in the air, swiftly reaching the ends of the rink. The first time I saw him was at the 2019 Japan Skating Federation camp where I was invited as a coach. I never imagined then that coaching would be my destiny. My role is to assist Yuma in conveying what’s inside him into his performance. The artistic aspect requires everything—technical, mental, and life experiences and takes time. But Yuma understands that direction well,” said Kostner
About Kagiyama’s victory at the NHK Trophy, Kostner remarked, “First and foremost, I’m grateful to Mr. Kagiyama (Masakazu). Because he’s here, and I can focus only on skating and performance, and I can lead Yuma with a shining gaze. And Yuma understands firmly what he wants to tackle. That has led to results. After the performance, Yuma asked for more ideas to project emotions into the performance. By reflecting his own personality in skating, I believe he has started to move on to the next step.”
