Yuma Kagiyama, who won a silver medal in men’s figure skating at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, participated in the Japanese national team training camp held in Izumisano, Osaka on the July 8th. As he aims to make a comeback from left ankle injury this season, he expressed his satisfaction, saying, “It’s been a while since we gathered for the training camp, and my motivation has increased. I can feel that I have improved when people watch my jumps and programs. I felt fulfilled.”

For the short program and free skate, he will continue to use the music from last season but will make improvements in the details of the performance. On this day, he practiced his SP, “Believer,” twice. In the first attempt, the rotation of the opening quadruple salchow came undone, but he successfully landed a sequence of triple lutz–toe loop and a triple axel. In the second attempt, he fell during the opening quadruple salchow and stopped midway. He commented, “I’m removing the anxiety factor. I want to focus on the completion without rushing.”

Last season, he had been off the ice for about two months due to an injury. He said, “Since recovering from the injury, I have been conscious of refining my skating and steps, and I can feel that my skating has become more delicate.” He also feels the progress he has made. For this season’s Grand Prix (GP) series, he has entered the third event, the Internationaux de France (November 3-5), and the sixth event, the NHK Trophy (November 24-26). He added, “Even within the country, the level is high. I want to stand out with my programs for this season.”
