Take it off immediately. Pairs. Season 2016-2017

Welcome to the annual anti-ranking of costumes. Let’s see what pairs have prepared to “surprise” us.

Let’s start with Valentina Marchei and her dress in art-deco style.

Valentina MArchei Ondrej Hotarek

It looked good only from one angle. This one:

Valentina Marchei Ondrej Hotarek

I don’t even want to know what Alexander Smirnov is wearing…..He seemed to be a decent men….

Yuko Kavaguti Alexander Smirnov

In their first season together I also criticized their costumes and got a lot of feedback like “Probably they didn’t have enough funding to sew good costumes. How you can criticize them for it?!” Well it’s not about money, you can’t buy taste.

Kristina Astakhova Alexei Rogonov

I’m sure all ice dancers are super envy! They also want such a deep plunging neckline for latina season. I’m sure someone is already making sketches.

Joshua Santillan’s costume has everything that we all “love” so much) Ruches, plush, some writings….and leather trousers. I have no idea how it all supposed to match with each other.

Jessica PFUND Joshua SANTILLAN

I tried to get the idea what Lana Petranovitch’s designer wanted to say with this dress…..but I failed.

Costumes of burn-men outshined all the memories about Italians’ short program.

Nicol Della Monica MAtteo Guarise

And my favorite costume disaster of the season. You can’t somehow make it look better. Just burn this costumes and forget them like a nightmare.

Evgenia Tarasova Vladimir Morozov

I knew Tarasova/Morozov’s FP costumes would win first prize before I even started reading…

Valentina looks like she’s trying to combine The Great Gatsby with the Hollywood awards. Just too much decoration for one dress. Ah, at least Ondrej is simply dressed…

Yuko and Alexander’s costumes confused me all season. It’s supposed to be a sexy blues program, like Sui/Han’s. So why is she dressed like she’s skating to “Rhapsody in Blue” and why is he wearing a sad version of Adam Rippon’s mesh SP shirt? It simply doesn’t match and I found it jarring all season.

Kristina, Alexei, your first costumes for this program weren’t bad. Why go and ruin it with these? Her dress is just too odd and doesn’t suit the program at all.

Ah…sometimes the deep V does go too far…

Not to be hard on my own countryman, but Josh Santillian’s outfit is like a time travel movie when a modern person is walking through old-time streets in modern clothes.

I don’t even want to know the story behind Lana’s dress.

Nicole and Matteo’s costumes might’ve been cool if they’d toned down the flames and removed the writing. Often, simplicity is the best solution.

This of course is no reflection on my feelings about any of these skaters! They are wonderful people, and they deserve gorgeous costumes. That’s all I’m saying!

Of course, costumes are just costumes, they have nothing to do with my attitude to this skaters or their skating. I just wish they were dressed better.

I like Valentina very much. But this dress didn’t suit her. You should be careful with patterns because it can ruin the proportions and this dress caused an impression that she hasn’t a waist.

      Be prepared for latina season!)

I agree! Costumes are just clothes. Sometimes lovely skaters just get stuck in ugly costumes.

Valentina is gorgeous, but the dress just doesn’t showcase how pretty she is. What a shame.

Oh latina season…I can hardly wait.
