Alexandra Trusova: “Triple axel is not negotiable and won’t be negotiable. I will always do it regardless of what it might cost me. If I do the axel, there is a possibility that there will be Olympic gold.”
Alexandra Trusova commented on her performance in the short program at the Beijing Olympics.
Trusova fell on the triple axel, scored 74.60 points and placed fourth.
Alexandra Trusova: Triple axel is not negotiable and won’t be negotiable. I will always do it.
In training, it turns out regardless of the state, at the competitions – not yet.
I’m not looking at the fourth place in the short program. I skate for myself and will skate only for myself. My jump content for the free program depends on my shape and nothing else.
I can’t say how Kamila (Valiyeva) felt during the warm-up, because I was focused on myself. Otherwise, we try to communicate as usual.
I really wanted to perform today, it was unlike anything I’ve had in terms of sensations – the Olympics. We watched the men’s competitions and I was waiting for when I myself could go and compete.
Alexandra Trusova: Mood is good. I didn’t think about giving up the triple axel. It’s my goal. It doesn’t matter what the competitios are and what it might cost me. This time I was hardly worried. It was a long awaited performance. Usually I’m worried and can’t do it. But today I was calm. I imagined the Olympics differently. But I really enjoyed skating here. After a fall on the axel, I did everything else easily, showing the artistic image easily.
Scores? These are my usual scores when I fall on the axel.
My goal for this Olympics? Skate both programs clean. Gold? If I do axel, there is a possibility that there will be Olympic gold.
Of course, I wanted to participate in the team event. But this is not my decision, I can not say anything about it. I learned about it at the Olympics, after the short program.

Evgeni Plushenko: “Trusova is incredibly talented girl. But instead of chasing records, she needs to focus on what she can do best.”
