Daniel Grassl: It was very difficult for me to find motivation … The whole past year passed under the auspices of the Olympics, but they motivated me less and less. To be honest, I was not very happy to train, skate, or compete. Each performance ate my nerves. And after the Italian Nationals, I decided that something needed to be changed. And I made the best decision that could be made for my career: I went to the academy of Eteri Tutberidze, because she is one of the best coaches in the world. I believe that sport should be apolitical. I hope that you understand me. I decided to go to her academy because it was important for my career and my prospects. I only thought about how to do better for myself and my career.

Of course, I did not skate in the most successful way today. I was very nervous and couldn’t get myself together. But the result of our work shouldn’t be expected at these European Championships. We worked very little together. It’s a long process. I enjoyed working with Eteri, and I plan to continue training with her in the future. Over time, this will definitely bring results. Training with Tutberidze is hard. She is very demanding, but it motivates me, so it’s great. I look forward to returning to her on the ice and training even more vigorously.

I understand him that he had difficulties to find motivation after the Olympics. An Olympic cycle of 4 years is so long and the next Olympics for Italian skaters will be very important. So given this he needs to find the best training environment for him and he is the one who needs to decide what suits him. He trained in the USA and it didn’t work out, then he returned to Italy which also wasn’t seem to be a good move either. If he thinks he needs to try how he could train with Tutberidze, that is his choice, it is not the business of fans. Certain fans look at everything as it was politics, but I doubt skaters think of politics that often. They need to train and show their skills on the ice, that is what counts.
I read some awful comments in the past few days about Daniel from armchair fans. I hope he doesn’t read them at all, it is better to ignore these messages.

If by “means” you mean drugs, she certainly has them.

Wish the young man all the best. How difficult it must be, in his situation. He, as well as Eteri, have all the means to overcome the current situation, and shine. Shine on!
