A couple of days ago it’s become known that Mikhail Kolyada will skate to the “Schindler’s List” in the Olympic season. Elena Vaitsekhovskaya in her article mentioned “Schindler’s List” as the theme of Kolyada’s new short program and Alexei Mishin confirmed this news to the Match TV correspondent Anastasiya Panina in a personal conversation.
The choreographer Nikita Mikhailov told a bit about the new free program.
Nikita Mikhailov: The task was to select a program for the Olympics. This always complicates the choice, since you cannot experiment too much – you need one hundred percent hit. The choice of music was as follows: I sent my options, Alexei Nikolaevich and Misha listened and said their verdict, whether they like it or not, whether they see this artistic image or not. I prepared Schindler’s List in advance and strengthened its sound with my friend, composer Alexei Galinsky. And I’ll tell you right away – the artistic image we skate is not abstract about all the grief of the Jewish people, but directly Oskar Schindler and his good deed, which saved many lives.
Nikita Mikhailov also believes that there should be no parallels with Julia Lipnitskaya’s program, which in four minutes of Sochi’s performance made her a world superstar. And other comparisons will not give rise to doubt that Kolyada will get his own, special “Schindler’s List”.
Nikita Mikhailov: I do not agree that Kolyada’s program will be compared with Lipnitskaya’s program. Still, Julia is a women’s skating. Our program will probably be compared with Jason Brown, who has suddenly decided to go back to this program after a few years. But our work will be different from his in both the composition of the music and the character. Well, in general, Misha is completely different. I must say that working with such a professional as Kolyada is always a pleasure for a choreographer. We will continue to work on the program, since there is always something to improve, and if the elements change, then I will always be there so that we keep our program without losing the thread of the story. Misha is a real artist. He tried to feel all the choreography tasks as much as possible in the process of working on the program, we selected all the movements not just for the beauty of the performance, but filled them with meaning. Therefore, the four minutes of the program turns into a real story.

This all sounds so honorable. They take a famous and beautiful music and just because this music was used earlier by someone else, they make their own piece of art, work with own individuality, do their own thing. They have no need to make a plagiarism. Exactly the opposit we could see some days before from another famous coaching center somewhere else. The Professor and his team has no need to steal excellent ideas from others and make them to his own. His team has great ideas of its own. That is great art, decency. Yes..we have here on one hand “white crows” and on the other hand stealing black ravens (Choreographers with “work” on the assembly-line). What a big difference.
They should have kept his actual FS. Or choose something that is not THAT overused. Carmen, Bolero, Schindler list, Chopin, Moulin Rouge… Always a dozen of programs on the same music.
And don’t forget Romeo and Juliet)
