On February 20, Riku Miura (24) and Ryuichi Kihara (33) who won gold in pairs figure skating at the Milan-Cortina Olympics, appeared on TV Asahi’s “Tetsuko’s Room Special Edition.” They shared a playful story about Miura’s forgetfulness. Here’s a translation of his comments posted on Nikkansports.

Back in 2022, Miura had revealed aspects of her personal life, such as forgetting her skates for practice or oversleeping.

This time, Kihara began, “I think she’s grown in many ways over the past four years, but… she still forgets things.” He added, “Even today, she forgot her phone at the hotel.” Miura quickly defended herself, saying, “That’s because Ryuichi was rushing me so much this morning!”

Kihara replied with a laugh, “It was already time to meet. I didn’t say ‘hurry up’ or anything, but I guess my face looked rushed.”

When host Tetsuko Kuroyanagi asked, “Did you forget anything at the Olympics?” Miura immediately answered, “Oh, lots of things.” She added, “Recently, people have been saying that when I forget something, it means I’m totally focused on the competition. It’s become a kind of good-luck charm – if I forget something, my skating goes well.” Kihara chimed in, “She uses that as an excuse, saying, ‘I’m just focused on skating today,’ so she doesn’t feel bad about forgetting things,” making everyone laugh.
