Tatiana Tarasova criticized the judging at the Milan Olympics, claiming Russian skater Petr Gumennik was robbed of a medal and insisting Russia deserved two medals, not one. Here’s a translation of her comments.
Gumennik finished in sixth place. In total, Russian athletes won one silver medal at the Games (Nikita Filippov’s silver in ski mountaineering).
“All our athletes who managed to compete did a great job. For Russian athletes, this was not a celebration of sport. It’s impossible to celebrate when things are like this. It’s very upsetting for talented athletes who weren’t given the chance to show what they can do.
The only medal? We don’t have just one, we have two. Because Petya Gumennik was simply robbed. They just took and stole his medal. First, they crushed him, and then they robbed him,” Tarasova said.
