Jia Shin, who made her Winter Olympic debut at the 2026 Milano-Cortina d’Ampezzo Games, expressed her intention to carry the sense she gained from the team event into the individual competition. Here’s a translation of her comments.
After finishing the women’s singles short program in the figure skating team event at, Jia Shin said, “I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I’d be,” and laughed, “I found that a bit surprising myself.”
On this day, Jia Shin received a score of 68.80 points. This was a disappointing result, falling well short of her personal best of 74.47 points.
Jia Shin arrived in Milan on the 4th local time and had her first practice only the day before, competing under challenging conditions.
Meeting with reporters after the event, she said, “It’s an honor to be able to compete in the Olympic team event for the first time,” and added, “I’m glad I could get a feel for competition before the individual event.”
She continued, “It didn’t feel all that different just because it was the Olympics. I approached the event with the same nerves as any other competition. Honestly, I was worried I’d be very nervous, but once I got on the ice, I wasn’t as nervous as I expected, which surprised me.”
Jia Shin said that before the short program music started, she was only thinking about her first jump assignment (the triple lutz–triple toe loop combination). “Even during warm-up and every time I jumped, the cheers were loud, so I really enjoyed the team event,” she smiled. “Everything was enjoyable.”
She concluded, “I hope I can carry the feeling I had in the team event into the individual event and finish well. I really practiced hard, and I want to show everyone all that I’ve worked on.”
