Nina Pinzarrone narrowly missed the podium at the European Figure Skating Championships, finishing fourth after a fall in her free skate, but remains motivated and optimistic as she looks ahead to the Olympics. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Sporza.

“Fourth is a stupid place,” Pinzarrone said bluntly. “You never want to be fourth, but fourth is still better than fifth.”

Still, disappointment prevailed at first. A fall and a few mistakes spoiled things. “This morning everything went well in practice, I felt really good. I know I couldn’t expect too much, since I didn’t even expect to be second after the short program.”

Pinzarrone is coming back from a foot injury. “Actually, I haven’t trained enough. I know I have to work hard on the free skate. But I’m taking positive moments from this competition. It gives me motivation to train.”

Her focus is already on the future, or at least soon. “Definitely, when I start training again on Monday, I won’t look back anymore. The goal is to look ahead to the Olympics. I know it will be fine,” the 19-year-old Belgian said determinedly.

With the Winter Olympics just under a month away, does Pinzarrone feel ready?

“I still have four weeks to train. That’s actually quite a long time. I’m already better than a month ago, and it can only get better. I believe in it.”

“I’m taking the positive things with me. I can also take the negative points, but in a different way. This gives me confidence. I have more now than when I arrived here,” said Pinzarrone.
