Mone Chiba (20), the bronze medalist from last March’s World Championships, started strong at Skate Canada, topping the women’s short program rankings. Here’s a translation of her comments posted on Nikkansports.
Speaking about her first Grand Prix event of the season, Chiba admitted, “I was nervous,” but also expressed her surprise at the high score. “I thought my score might be a little lower because of the nerves. But my spins, skating, and expressions were all commended – I even received comments from Hamada-sensei and Federation representatives saying, ‘You looked like you were enjoying yourself out there,’” she said, flashing a bright smile.
As she pursues her first Olympic dream in the Milan-Cortina Winter Games season, Chiba believes she is on the right path. “I feel reassured that my efforts are heading in the right direction. I want to aim higher and continue working toward even greater achievements,” she shared with determination.
