In a recent interview, Alexandra Trusova, a silver medalist at the 2022 Winter Olympics, shared insights into her remarkable career, her record-breaking ambitions, and how her perspective on figure skating has evolved over time. Here’s a translation of her comments.

Trusova, who made history by attempting five quadruple jumps in a single program, explained the motivation behind her groundbreaking approach:

“I wanted to do what others couldn’t. Even now, I really want to jump quads – it makes me feel better as a skater. I pursued this goal for the Olympics and worked hard to achieve it,” she said.

When asked about her personality and how she spends her time now, Trusova’s life seems to have undergone significant changes:

“Before, I used to say that I liked staying quiet and spending time with my dogs. Now, I have a husband, a child, and friends from the sports world. Before the Olympics, I tried to stay focused and keep to myself. But after the Olympics ended, I gradually learned to let go.”

Trusova also addressed whether she had any regrets about pursuing singles instead of pairs skating: “I believe that with my personality, it would have been difficult to skate in pairs.

Previously, I skated with Makar (Ignatov), and we found it challenging. He thought I should adapt to him, while I thought the opposite.”

Reflecting on her figure skating career and her near-miss with Olympic gold – ultimately finishing second to Anna Shcherbakova in Beijing – Trusova expressed a sense of peace:

“I came to terms with the fact that I didn’t achieve everything I wanted long ago. I’m happy that I had such a career. I can talk about it calmly now, and it doesn’t carry the same significance it did at the time.”
