Adam Siao Him Fa talks to Eurosport France about winning bronze at the 2024 Worlds and his goals. Here’s a translation of his comments
“Q: Could you hear the noise that the audience made during your program (at Worlds)? It was deafening, people screamed for the entire end of the program!
Adam Siao Him Fa: Yes, it was so crazy that by the end I couldn’t hear my music (laughs)! When I was in the zone, focused on my jumps, I could hear the audience, but from afar, I didn’t hear them as much as at the end of the program, when I relaxed. And that’s when I realized it was incredible. The audience was incredible that day, and throughout the competition. During the short program, and even during official practices, they were behind me, supporting me, cheering me on. It was truly amazing and it really warmed my heart.
Q: They carried you to this historic bronze medal, given that such a ranking comeback had never happened in figure skating history. This rewards a very good season, with two Grand Prix victories and your second European title. What is your overall sum up of this season?
Adam Siao Him Fa: It had its ups and downs. But these World Championships made me understand that you must never give up, that a competition is never over until the last free skate program has received its scores. We can have a bad program, that happens to everyone, but you must not give up anything afterward. You have to fight to the end. That’s why, after this disastrous short program, I wanted to prove to others and myself that this performance did not reflect at all what I am capable of. It turned into a great comeback.
Q: In the long term, the Milan 2026 Olympics are in sight. Is 2026 a real objective?
Adam Siao Him Fa: Yes, it’s coming up fast. Today I know that a medal is conceivable, it’s possible. This whole season has proven to me that I have a place among the best in the world. I’m going to work towards this goal, but there are still a lot of steps to reach it.
Q: How do you plan to progress, to evolve?
Adam Siao Him Fa: In the off-season, we will of course work on technique, work on new jumps, but the short-term goal is also to bring innovation to my programs, to bring things that have not been done yet. There will be surprises, we are thinking about it.”
