Kaori Sakamoto (23), the bronze medalist at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and the two-time reigning world champion, attended the “Degree Conferral Ceremony,” equivalent to her graduation ceremony, at Kobe Gakuin University on the September 30th. She completed her four-and-a-half-year university journey, which started in April 2019, and managed to graduate from the School of Business Administration six months later than planned due to the demands of her competitive career. Recognizing her athletic achievements, she also received the President’s Award. She looked back on her time with a satisfied expression, saying, “(Balancing both) was incredibly tough, but I thought that being a student was something I could only do now, so I did my best.”

Regarding her future plans, Sakamoto stated with determination, “My life will revolve even more around skating. I’m not young in the world of figure skating, so I’ll take care of myself to stay injury-free.”

In September, she secured victory at the Autumn Classic, her first international competition of the season. Her goals for this season are clear: “I aim for a three-peat at the Japanese Nationals and the World Championships,” both of which she has won twice. As a working professional now, Sakamoto is moving forward on her path towards the 2026 Milan Olympics.
