Malinin performed a quadruple axel and four more quadruple jumps in the free program. Interview was given in Russian.

Ilia, wonderful Grand Prix! You were great. What are the emotions now?

Ilia Malinin: I don’t even know how I was able to skate the program like that! To be honest, I’m shocked that I could perform like that. I think it’s because I trained well. Today I had a lot of confidence. I just properly prepared myself before the performance and just went on the ice!

You said that in the future you might try the quintuple jump. After such a performance, it’s time to think about it. If you try it, then which one will it be?

Ilia Malinin: While it is difficult to talk about it. Despite the successful performance, I’m not in 100% shape right now. A lot will depend on what condition I’m in at the end of the season. And if I try, then I have a great desire to make a quintuple toe loop or salchow.

In Russia, you are very popular; you are discussed a lot. Do you read articles or comments from fans?

Ilia Malinin: I don’t really look at what is posted on the Internet. Everyone can write what they want; I don’t really follow it. For me, it’s not so important. At the moment, I’m focused on myself, on my skating.

Do you follow skaters from Russia? Do you like one of our guys?

Ilia Malinin: I like all Russian figure skaters! And especially Mikhail Kolyada! I like how he jumps lutz. This reminds me of my lutz. He performs this jump in a cool way; it looks very easy.
