How is your mood now, motivation?

Adeliia Petrosian: I kept my head cold for a long time, trying to distract myself with somw funny moments. I started to set myself up for triple axel only at the six-minute warm-up, and I didn’t think that it’s necessary to do it right now.

I knew you started doing the triple axel. But it was some kind of a secret. When did you and your coaches decide to implement this secret weapon?

Adeliia Petrosian: We put it into the program two or one and a half weeks ago. And as for competitions, this is my first triple axel in competitions. I’m very glad it worked out. It was still 50/50. I did everything to make it.

Yes, this is my first trixel in competition. I’m very glad it worked out. It was still 50/50. I did everything to make it.

Seems you really like this short program.

Adeliia Petrosian: Yes, I really like this program. I am grateful to Eteri Georgievna and Daniil Markovich that they decided to give this music to me.

When you skated, you sang the entire program along with the music, like in karaoke.

Adeliia Petrosian: I really like this song (Voila by Barbara Pravi – ed.), it is close to me in lyrics, in character. That’s why, I sing. I skate for myself and for the audience, I sing because the music inspires me. I sing at Khrustalny almost every day, so it comes easily.

Did your mom tell you what the lyrics of this song are about?

Adeliia Petrosian: Yes, we read the translation, and my mother tells every word. I really understand this song.

Barbara Pravi sings about herself that she is afraid of performing in public – and she overcomes her fear, opens up.

I don’t think you’re afraid to perform in public.

Adeliia Petrosian: You never know what could happen. We are still inexperienced, we do not quite know how to perform. There is fear, jitters, I want to do everything well. So there’s a little fear.

You probably can say “thank you” to the parents for the date of birth? A month later and you would face the age minimum.

Adeliia Petrosian: What a strange question. Well, if my mother had given birth to me later, nothing terrible would have happened.

About the support of the audience

Adeliia Petrosian: Of course, everyone loves our senior athletes very much, and I myself respect them very much. So I understand what’s going on. The audience will support senior athletes more than young ones.

I do not consider myself the first number of the group [Eteri Tutberidze], we have both Kamila Valieva and Sonia Akatieva.

About victory at the Grand Prix and free program

Adeliia Petrosian: My image in the free program? Difficult music, first there is a state of emptiness, a feeling of despair, then you start to get out of it. This is a complex image. I need to work and think a lot on this, convey it all.

Prize money 500 thousand (8000USD)? I’m not planning on what to spend yet. Not the most important goal.

What’s next? There will be a day off. I will meet with my grandmother, rest, get enough sleep and continue to work. 9-10 hours of sleep is optimal.

About comparison with Evgenia Medvedeva

Adeliia Petrosian: Three years they talk about comparison with Medvedeva. I don’t mind, I like Zhenya, she is a great athlete and personality. But I think that I grew up and became less like her.

I like this girl. Her skating, her humility, and especially the way she sings along with the music in her SP :)

She is a true gem. A phenomenal athlete and artist. And the way she answers the questions startles me. So young in age, but mature and wise. Very graceful young lady.
