First news about Russian figure skaters receiving a summons to the draft board.

On Wednesday, September 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization for the war in Ukraine. And it was only a matter of time when athletes starts receiving a summons to the draft, especially those who represent CSKA – Central Sports Club of the Army.

24-year-old Russian figure skater Alexander Samarin, who is the silver medalist of the 2019 European Championships, received a summons from the military registration and enlistment office. This was told by Anna Shkurdai, the captain of the Paradise synchronized figure skating team. Samarin represent the CSKA club and all male athletes of this club undergo obligatory military training and have military rank and considered reserve officers.

‘Sasha Samarin received a summons from the draft board. Confirmation? His friend is my friend,’ Shkurdai said.

Russian journalist Dmitri Kuznetsov also said that Samarin isn’t the only one.

“I can only say that several people have already told me during the day that the active skaters receive summons. Samarin is not the only one.” Kuznetsov posted on his telegram channel.

    Katsalapov and Morozov should have been the first ones to get the summons.. They were wearing Z symbols months ago..
