Elena Radionova: The main figure skating audience is fans from Russia and Japan. If world figure skating loses its Russian audience, then sponsors and advertising will leave. So they created such a difficult situation themselves.

When our guys were not allowed to the World Championships, we had alternative competitions on the same dates. The interest was huge, everyone forgot about the competitions in France. I did not watch the World Championships, because there was no intrigue, no emotions that our athletes give.

In women’s single skating, the girl who does not jump quadruples won. Our girls are pushing the limits, and she won with the content that skaters used to perform 10 years ago.

the top level athlete not in event the level is so weak and loose all
    interest that mean less sponsor
due to loose of lot of ppl in
streaming or on TV to look the
    event

They forgot that Alina Zagitova won the 2018 Olympics and the 2019 World Championship without triple axel nor quadruple jump at all!

You are so arrogant by saying that lady! Did you forget that Alina Zagitova won the 2018 Olympics without triple axle nor quadruple jumps? Even Anna Scherbakova won the 2021 World Championship with a failed quadruple jump. Let your Russian teenage girls stay in this sport for 4 more years to see if they are still able to do those ultra C elements.

  5. Robbin says:

Many sponsors have been Western and Japanese. If anything western companies have been closing stores in Russia because of the invasion. They most likely would not be sponsoring events if Russian athletes were there.

  6. these are the japanese says:

“Russian figure skaters are the main attraction to any fs event”
No, the main ones are the japanese. Yuzuru can attract more people alone than the russians together.

  7. Simone says:

Russians as usually, living in their own little universe. Until the sanctions start biting of course.

  8. Truth says:

Elena is correct and the butthurt on this comment section have to understand that Russian figure skaters are the main attraction to any fs event, and they have nothing to do with war because they’re athletes.

  9. Krin says:

Lol no. So many sponsors are pulling out of Russia right now because of the war; safe to say they won’t stop funding figure skating due to Russia’s lack of participation.

  10. Chris says:

Even if it weren’t for Olympics controversy I think Russians would still have been banned from Worlds for their own safety. So much anger towards Russia could translate into violence towards any Russians in US.

  11. Interested says:

You would be surprised how quickly the world would forget about Russian figure skaters, and the new stars would be shining. And yes, I do feel sorry for the kids whose parents invested everything into something (figure skating career) which appears to be worthless…

  12. gf says:

you can shut up, war supporter.
