Evgenia Medvedeva on what she considers her main talent
Evgenia Medvedeva: I talked with different coaches, not only with Eteri Georgievna (Tutberidze) – everyone says frankly “There is no physical data.”
My muscle mass is not growing. If it grows, then barely. It wouldn’t be enough even to replace all food with a protein shake, maybe take a shower of it. I have no flexibility, no jump from nature – I need to learn all of this.
It could have been easier. But I don’t know, would it have been easier if I had it all. And whether would I appreciate all this if I had all this from nature.
Probably my talent is hard work. This is not only my merit, but also the merit of Eteri Georgievna, my mother, grandmother.
Up to 15 years old my grandmother went with me everywhere – both to the rink and competitions. She was giving me a push where it was necessary, for which many thanks to her, my granny is a rock.
What she had to sacrifice for the success in sports
Evgenia Medvedeva: The biggest sacrifice for my career? I’ll lie not saying that this is health. This is health, for sure. Was it worth it? Yes, of course, I’m not complaining at all.
How is my recovery from coronavirus and injuries going? If you compare with what happened at the beginning, then I am a super Sparky. There are details that I don’t want to reveal.
It’s no secret that after the team event I was taking time to recover, because I had complications after an illness. I’m still recovering. Everything is fine, everything is according to plan.
About technical progress in ladies’ single skating
Evgenia Medvedeva: We all see in which direction figure skating is developing in terms of technique. When I did the cleanest salchow-toe loop combination in the second half of the free program, it was a standing ovation. They were telling me that was so cool.
5 years have passed, not even 10, not 15. The girl will not surprise anyone with a quadruple lutz – this is mind blowing.
I think that even three years ago, none of the fans or the skaters themselves could have thought about it. It’s so cool, cosmic level. People believed that this was physically impossible.
After this five-year period, I can say that soon someone will make a jump in five turns.
