Stepanova and Bukin: “Queue is not the right word. Rather, you need to earn the recognition of the judges, people, fans”
Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin about preparation for the Russian Nationals, coronavirus and queue in ice dance.
Ivan Bukin: It was really nervous. We haven’t competed for 11 months. We thought we would compete at the Grand Prix and at the fifth stage of the Russian Cup. But I had pneumonia, 25 percent of lungs damage, I got sick on November 1st.
Alexandra Stepanova: And before that I was sick. We didn’t even take part in the test skates, only three weeks before the Russian Nationals we began to skate what looked like our pair.

About queue in ice dance
Alexandra Stepanova: I think “queue” is not quite the right word. Rather, you need to earn the recognition of the judges, people, fans. All comes with experience. Few people manage to get on top right away. I know one such pair – Gabriella Papadakis / Guillaume Cizeron. In an ordinary queue, we sit and do nothing, but here we gain experience, work, and then whoever can show a high level.
