Eteri Tutberidze commented on her victory in the Best Coach nominee of the ISU Skating Awards.
by Olga Ermolina and Tatjana Flade for fsrussia.ru dd. 11th July
Eteri Georgievna, congratulations! What does it mean for you to win “Best coach” nomination?
Eteri Tutberidze: Well, for me, as probably for every coach, this is a recognition of the path and work that have been done. Moreover, I had very worthy rivals. It was an honor just to be nominated.
What is the secret of your successful work?
Eteri Tutberidze: Every day we just try to do at least something useful from the proposed circumstances. And the secret of our work is very simple – we work with love for our work, and there is nothing else.
Following the famous movie Some Like It Hot (in Russian translation “In Jazz Only Girls” -ed) do you also prefer to work with girls?
Eteri Tutberidze: Of course not! We had Sergei Voronov, Adian Pitkeev and other guys. Moris Kvitelashvili is skating with us for a long time. But we’re associated with the girls, because with them it turns out a little better.
What moment of this season can you highlight?
Eteri Tutberidze: You know, for me every competition, every podium is part of the way. Some competitions end, and I’m already thinking what needs to be worked on, how to improve or keep fit or correct mistakes.
But morally, of course, medals of my daughter Diana Davis, who skates in ice dance with Gleb Smolkin and coached by Igor Shpilband bring me the real joy. Let nobody took offence about this.
What are your goals?
Eteri Tutberidze: I really want to make such programs which would touch the audience, made them think, well, and, of course, polish these programs so we’d like to rewatch them. As for the medals, I want to hear the anthem in our honor. When our flag rises, the anthem sounds, then there is more air and you want this moment to last longer.
