Grand Prix Final 2018. Fashion results: ladies
I think we had enough time to discuss the results of the Grand Prix Final and now we finally can talk about fashion. So let’s discuss the dresses of our beautiful finalists.
First I need to say that there were no fashion failures, just some dresses were better than the others.
Sofia Samodurova
Nice dress in style of Spanish program. I like the idea that the dress is a flower, so the skirt looks like rose petals. It’s done very well and the skirt looks great in motion. Good idea, good realization. That’s why I think that the other details like roses on the arms and lacing on the back weren’t needed and that’s a bit too much. Sometimes less is better.
No doubt this is the dress for Burlesque, so it works perfectly for the theme and style of the program. I like its brightness and shines and the fringe skirts that dance together with the skater. But there are two moments about this dress that I don’t like. First, quite rough nude illusion mesh. Oh, why is it always a problem for so many skater? Second, this strange white triangle that goes from the bodice/corsage. Whatever it’s, I don’t like it, it looks distractive.
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva
This season Elizaveta is in amazing shape, so she really can afford even the most bold design of costumes. That’s why I hoped for some bright colors in her costumes. This dress fits her perfectly and shows all the advantages of her figure. I like the beading on the bodice and this stylish belt…I just wish she has more elegant and sophisticated chic spy-girl look.
I think she used this dress last season for one of her programs…So it isn’t new. But anyway it works great for the program. It’s also dark, but I really appreciate bright golden finishing. For sure this dress gives us vibes from the 20th. But I wish the work has been more accurate, then the dress would have had more expensive look.
Rika Kihira
Airy and tender dress – great match for this program. I like the beautiful decor (but still not sure about heavy purple necklace) on the bodice and light wings sleeves. But I think this dress doesn’t work perfectly for Rika’s body type and also looks a little bit juniorish.
Among Rika’s dresses I definitely prefer her dress for the free program. First it fits her body type much better and I also like the sleeves which highlight the arms and lines. Second, it really gives us an impression of the storm with all this shining lightnins and deep ombre color of thunder sky.
Alina Zagitova
Despite the fact that the idea for this costume was definitely taken from a movie, looking only at the dress I would have never guessed it was Phantom of the Opera) For me it’s more a Giselle dress. Love the tender color combination, don’t like the short gloves.
Giselle or Christine?
How many Carmen’s dress we have seen? A thousand and one)
It’s not gonna be one of my favorite Carmen dresses of all time, but it’s nice, age appropriate and quite elegant gown. I like the asymmetrical design of the skirt (it makes the legs look longer) and high waist. The one thing that I would gladly remove are red ruffles on the sleeves, I don’t think we need them. This dress also reminds me of evening gowns with crop tops:
Satoko Miyahara
Such a beautiful, tender gown with cream antique laces. Just delight. But…I don’t think this “wedding dress” is the best option for this program( In my opinion her previous dress was a perfect match, looked better on the ice and had some French charm. This one is beautiful and elegant and I have no question about design or execution it just not special.
The same story with the dress for the free program. I like it one shoulder design and I like the black-green combination which is untypical for tango. But I prefer the previous dress more. I also don’t like the cut on the side…it doesn’t work for Satoko’s tiny body type. With her previous dresses she would have definitely won the fashion grand prix, but with those – only a second place.
and my unexpected winner
Kaori Sakomoto
I have never been the fan of Kaori’s skating or her style in costumes, I’m not a fan of ombre dresses too (I’m sick of them to be honest, especially in ice dance), but in my opinion, overall she was the best dressed lady at the Grand Prix Final.
I just love this ombre purple dress! Feminine and tender. With nice drapery and silhouette that suits her. She reminded a delicate flower.
and more classical look for the free program. Elegant, with no extra details and nice one shoulder silhouette, the waist is exactly where it needs to be. This dress really suits Kaori. Well done!
