Short Interview with Evgenia Medvedeva for Elle magazine, translation.

Life without sport

Now because of the health reasons I have a ban on figure skating and any physical activities, but I do not listen to anyone, because that’s where I belong! I’m still not allowed to run and do aerobics, but I can not do without it, so I find loopholes. There are also psychological difficulties: when you are not skating for a long time, you are afraid that you will forget how to do it. I do not give up.

When I was injured, I mentally forced my body to recover faster, convinced myself that I was completely healthy. In the end, it helped me.

About the character

As a child, I was a hooligan: I constantly chattered, screamed loudly, hung on my parents’ arms. But when they told me “Enough, stop” I immediately stopped.

Of course, I allowed myself to be bold on the ice – I tried a quadruple jump, when the body was not fully prepared yet. The coaches said: “Maybe you shouldn’t?” But I still tried to do it.

About growing up

My childhood ended when I was 12, the sport makes you grow up quickly. Childhood goes away when you gain life experience and face with the obstacles such as betrayal. They teach us and help us grow up.

The most difficult thing in the growing up period is to realize that the person who helps you is not always for you and works for own benefit. I can’t understand it at all.

I don’t have classmates and school friends, I studied separately: I lived between training sessions, I studied by another program, teachers came to me at trainings. I’ve never had D, I had B for all subjects. It’s simple: stupid people or those who studied horribly, will never reach a high level in sports. It is important to have brains.

About inspiration

I’m always inspired by music, especially the one I’m skating to. Before each competitions, I do not take off the headphones for several hours and listen to Korean pop music, I’m a fan of the EXO group.

About criticism

My mother is also a skater, but she never interferes into the training process. She can give advice, but to listen not I’ll decide together with the coach.

There is criticism and there is nagging. I do not react to nagging. Criticism helps to achieve more. At the same time, I never wanted to be like anyone else, it’s important to remain personality.

About  self-care

For relaxation, I need one thing – silence. Only silence. I just lie and look at the phone. I’m 18 years old, the organism has already changed, other skin. The new status also requires constant self-care, so I pay much attention to my appearance. Manicure is done by private masters, but everything else – morning and evening skin care I do myself.

My idol is Audrey Hepburn. Her manners, appearance and behavior. My favorite movie with her is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
