Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov to miss Russian test skates
Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov won’t participate in Russian test skates in September. Their coach Tamara Moskvina told about that recently:
Yuko and Sasha will not perform at the test skates in Sochi, while they train, and no decisions haven’t been made yet.
Alexander Smirnov answered the question whether he and Yuko ready to start compete actively in case of force majeure, if FFKKR will asked them to do that:
Generally yes. But again, what kind of force majeure? If just to replace the leaders at the Grand Prix and do not go to the main competitions, as we have always done, then it’s unlikely. Yuko and I have so much work to do. And if there are big goals (set by FFKKR), then we are always ready.
We train, but we decided not to go to the test skates, we have not planned any competitions yet. Actually, we will not make any sudden moves, let’s see what will happen in the season.
Alexander also told that they haven’t prepared any programs for this season:
But we have many exhibition programs, which, if necessary, can be turned into a short and free program.
To me it sounds more like the end of the career. Sad….they always were a joy to watch.

it’s very sad, but I hope they recover. Their FP to Manfred Symphony by Tchaikovsky was great. They created so much drama and were so passionate. They were completely immersed in this FP, using nuances of the music. It was art on ice.
